My girl's basketball team lost the championship game 18-16. I think that is the best I have seen both teams play all year. There were a lot of tired girls after that game (and tired coaches). Neither team was ever ahead by more than 3 points, and most of the time it was only a 1 or 2 point differential.
It is going to help out my Saturday morning running schedule now that the season is over but I kind of wish it wasn't over. I had a great group of girls and had a lot of fun coaching them.

ING Georgia Training- Week 14
I took Monday afternoon off to get a long run in because I hadn't done one now is 2-3 weeks. My right calf did ok most of the run but the 15th mile was very painful. I am glad I didn't have any further to go.

Tuesday. I took this as a rest day. I actually got to run but it was raining prety hard so I just decided to make it a rest day. Went to the gym at lunch for upper body weight workout.

Wed.- I ended up sleeping in this morning. I figured since I only had 5 miles to run that I could do it at lunch. I went to the greenway for the first time in several weeks.

Thurs- 5 miles before work. Temps were nice. I am ready for the colder weather to be gone. Went to the gym at lunch for an upper body weight work out.

Fri- Rest day except Kathy and I laid almost 1/2 pallet of sod after work. I wanted to be careful not to be too sore for tomorrow's run.

Sat- met Autumn at Stone Mountain. I had 12 on the schedule and she had 20 so I added a little and did 15 of her 20 with her. Nice, consistent paced run. Went to my basketball team's championship game. What a game!! We lost by 2 but my girl's played the best game of the year. We had a team party at an "all you can stand" for $4.95 pizza parlor. Then I went ot playin the coaches game that afternoon. I didn't know how much I would play due to running 15 miles this morning but my legs responded really well and I had alot of fun. Got home and finished we finished laying the pallet of sod.

Sunday- ran 6 miles. My legs (and body) were a little tired from yesterday but the run went ok.

Best news- my calf did not hurt at all during the run on Saturday or during the basketball game. It was a little tight when I ran on Sunday but loosened up nicely during the run. Had no tightness after the run so hopefully that means it is finally healed.

Mon- 15 miles
Tues- a.m.- no run
p.m.- upper body weight workout
Wed- 5 miles
Thurs- a.m.- 5 miles
p.m.- upper body weight workout
Fri- rest day
Sat- 15 miles
Sun- 6 miles

Total- 46 miles

I have mentioned that I coach my nieces basketball team (5th-6th-7th grade girls). We finished the regular season in 3rd place, and were the only team to beat the 2nd place team during the season.
The season ending tournament started last week and we went in as the #3 seed. We won our first round game pretty convincing- the whole team really played well. Last night we played the #2 seed which also won their first round game pretty convincingly. I think my girls played the best game of the season so far and we won 20-18. What an exciting game. I really think that should have been the championship game.

Championship game is Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. We will be playing the #1 seed who has beaten us twice during the regular season in 2 fantastic games. Maybe the 3rd time will be a charm.

When: Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 9:00 am

Who: Children 8 years old and youngerThe official race course is a two-tenths of a mile loop that starts and ends at Regal Cinemas in Atlantic Station. Children ages four and under will complete one loop; children ages five and six will run two loops; and children ages seven and eight will run three loops. Every registered child will receive an official race t-shirt and participation medal. Morning activities will include arts and crafts, an interactive learning experience for all children, surprise visits from local mascots and information on ING DIRECT’s Planet Orange, a financial literacy Web site for youth. Two Planet Orange characters, Cedric and Amy, will serve as the honorary race directors for the ING DIRECT Tot Trot. ==============================================================

My almost 3 year old will be running his first race the day before the ING Georgia marathon. He loves to go running with me and rides in the running stroller most of the time but asks to get out and "run like daddy" some times so I let him get out and run/walk. I noticed on the web site that they have a children's race that is part of the marathon wekend, so I am going to sign him up. The course he will run is .2 of a mile. The picture below is from last fall at a local race. I guess I will have to get a shirt that says "Run Glenn Run".

ING Georgia Training- Week 13
Monday was a rest day which was good as my ham string is still pretty sore. I have been stretching it out gently and found my "The Stick" massage stick.

Tuesday- nice warm morning. Too nice not to try to run. I went out very slow and careful not to over extend my stride in any way. The run felt good as I warmed up and was able to strecth my legs out a little. My ham string was kind of tight through out the day. On a pain scale of 1-10 I would give it a 3-4.

Wed.- had a 10 mile run on the schedule but didn't want to push it on my leg just yet so I stopped at 5 miles. The pain was a little worse today than yesterday but still not enough not to run. Every time I get up from my chair at work it takes a few steps to get the leg moving right but I think it just needs to get stretched out real good. Maybe I can scheudle a massage soon.

Thurs.- Last night my plan was to get up early and try to run my 10 miles today but the 23 degrees outside and the warm bed took care of that in the morning. I over slept and woke up with just enough time to get 4 miles in before getting ready for work so I headed out. I was tired and slugged through the whole run. I am glad I did it though. In the past I would have just skipped the run because I couldn't get the majority of the miles in but I figured a few miles was better than no miles so off I went.

Fri- rest day

Sat.- 6 miles. My plan was to run 20 today. However, our basketball game was at 10:00 and when we got home from that Glenn had a birthday party to go to for our neighbors 4 year old so we loaded up and went to the party. Got home later in the day and layed down with Glenn for his nap and the both of us took a nap. I got up and went out for a quick 6 miles.

Sun- decided to run yesterday's 20 miler today but after running hard for the 6 yesterday my right leg was hurting. It is strange. The pain was at the top of my calf over a month ago. That went away then the ham string problem started. Now the pain has moved back down in to the top of my calf/back of knee area. I think I can stand the pain to run but the winds were 15-20 mph with gusts to 35 and I didn't want to push it that hard to run in winds that strong. Depending on how busy work is Monday I may take the afternoon off and get my long run in.

Mon- Rest day
Tues- 5 miles
Wed- 5 miles
Thurs- a.m.- 4 miles
p.m.-upper body weigths
Fri- rest day
Sat- 6 miles
Sun- o miles

Total- 20 miles

The race is 5 weeks out. If I don't get some long runs in soon I am going to think deriously about dropping to the half marathon.

ING Georgia Training week 12:

My training is not going the way I need it to now. After the first half of greta training I have hit problems the last 2 weeks. Last week it was sickness. This week I did something to my right hamstring. I was out for my 6 miler on Saturday and right after I hit the 5 mile mark I had a sharp, localized pain in my hamstring. I thought maybe I just step wrong and would run it out. After about 20 more steps of sharp pain every time I stepped I had to stop. I stretched and walked for a minute and then went ahead and finished my run at a very slow pace. I had a noticeable limp all night. Sunday morning I just had a tight feeling in the area with just a little pain when I walked. After church I decided to try my 12 miler knowing that I was going to have discomfort for the run. I made it about .7 miles (at a pace of 2 minutes off of my normal pace) I had to stop and walk back to the truck. I have never had a hamstring injury of any type that I can remember. I don't know what to do for it. Research time.

Mon- rest day
Tues- a.m. -5 miles
p.m.- upper body weights
Wed- 6 miles
Thurs- a.m.- 5 miles
Fri- rest day
Sat- 6 miles
Sun- couldn't run due to hamstring

This is a week to forget as far as training goes and try to get back on schedule this week.

Mon- rest day

Tues- a.m.- 5 mile run with 5x100M pickups
p.m.- upper body weight work out
Woke up with a sore throat and coughing from on coming cold

Wed- 10 miles. Didn't feel good but had a great run.

Thurs- a.m.- rain/sleet and cold. Did not run
p.m.- upper body weight work out
Fri- was going to make up yesterday's run but didn't ever get a chance to

Sat- Woke up feeling bad and no energy what so ever. Thought I might change the order of my runs and do my 10 miles today and 20 tomorrow. I ended up sleeping most of the afternoon so I never ran. I woke up 5 or 6 times with my head pounding during the night. If that is not what a migraine head ache feels like I hope I never get one.

Sun- came home after church and still felt crummy. Slept most of the afternoon again.

I am still not feeling too good but this week is a drop back week so I want to use it to get back on schedule. Training has been going so well up til now. This was supposed to be a 50 mile week and the first of my three 20 mile runs. I can still get two 20 mile runs in which will be fine.
