Week of 10-22-07:
My legs were pretty sore from the high miles and it wa sraining pretty good so I took Monday off to rest a little more. They were still a little sore on Tuesday so I did a slow 6. I had a massage Tues night- that helped alot. I did 6 miles on Wed. that felt pretty good, then a pretty good 4 on Thursday. I didn't plan on only doing 4 but I over slept and only had time for 4.
I was planning on 12 miles Saturday morning but ended up sleeping in. Kathy and I worked and painted on the basement project until early afternoon until I went for a quick 6 miles before the UGA-Florida game. I ended up doing 12 miles on Sunday afternoon after church- beautiful weather for a nice run.

Mon- No run
Tues- 6 miles
Wed- 6 miles
Thurs- 4 miles
Fri- rest day
Sat- 6 miles
Sun- 12 miles

Total- 34 miles

This and That........

It has been a crazy week temperature wise. The temperature on my Tuesday morning run was 71* and very humid. The temp on Wed. mornings run was 57 degrees. The temp on this mornings run was 45*..... almost a 30* degree change from Tues to Thurs.

We finally got some much needed rain here in Georgia. Of course it really didn't make a dent in the deficit and the drought, but every little bit helps and I am thankful for it.

A few weeks ago my boss and one of the planners turned in their notices. They are both gone now with last week being their last week here. I was asked about how I would like the department organized and my proposal was right in line with what the VP of Operations had in mind. She presented it to the CEO who gave final approval today- so I am being promoted from Sr. Buyer to Purchasing/Inventory Manager and am re-orging the department. No jobs are bing lost, just moving responsibilities around to match strengths. Exciting times!!

I wish I could have had a few more weeks like this one before the marathon. I logged 44.1 miles- not the smartest thing to do after what, 4-5 weeks of lower mileage and no long run. My legs were feeling a little tired later in the week but I recovered pretty quickly with my rest day on Friday.
My 6.1 mile run on Wednesday felt great- pushed the pace pretty hard (by my current standards). My 17 miler was also pretty good- a lot better than my last 17 mile run went.

Mon- 5 miles
Tues- 6 miles
Wed- 6.1 miles
Thurs- 4 miles
Fri- rest day
Sat- 17 miles
Sun- 6 miles

Total- 44.1

Well I think I have effectively messed up my chances at a strong race in Richmond. I knew I was going to probably miss a long run this past week on my trip to Arkansas to see my Dad and Step Mom but I didn't intend to miss some others. The past few weeks have been very busy with work and trying to get somethings done in between trips I missed some long runs. I am working on plan B now but want to see how things progress. My new plan is to run Richmond as a long run and then run the Charlotte Marathon - think the name is Thunder Road- 4 weeks later. That will give me some time to get a few long runs back in and maybe be ready to push the pace a little.
As much as I hated to miss the long runs I think it may have done me good anyway. Last week I started having dead legs. I have added an extra day of running to the schedule and have started pushing my pace on short runs. I have pretty much become a single speed runner- short run and long run pace very close to each other, so I kept my long run pace where it was and sped up my shorter runs. I the combo of those two things was causing my achey dead legs feeling.

Summary of the past 2 weeks:
Week of 10-01-07:
Mon- 4.2 miles
Tues- 6 miles
Wed- 6 miles
Thurs- 6 miles
Fri- rest day
Sat- 6 miles
Sun- 3.1 miles

Total- 31.3

Week of 10-08-07:
Mon- 5.2 miles
Tues- 6 miles
Wed- 6 miles
Thurs- Trip to Arkansas
Fri- Arkansas
Sat- Arkansas
Sun- Trip home from Arkansas

Total- 17.2 miles

Been a couple of weeks since I have posted. The week before vacation was crazy at work trying to get ready to go, then gone for a week, then it has really been crazy since I have been back. And as if it couldn't have gotten any crazier, this week my boss and the planner that I work more closely with both turned in their 2 week notices. Talking about coming back from vacation to craziness. Wow.

Running wise.... the week we were going to Panama City Beach was a cut back week. I kept my weekly runs the same but was going to cut my long run back to 12-14 miles. I ended up missing 1 short run and cut my long run off at 10 miles. I did the long run in PC and it was hotter than I was used to. It was an "ok" run and I didn't mind cutting it off.

Last week I had planned to pick up the mileage but adding a Monday run. I only did 3 because I wanted to break in to 6 days a week running slowly and keep everything safe. I did all of my runs that week EXCEpt for my long run of 18 miles. The way the schedule was working while we were at the beach all of my running was done somewhere between 3:00 - 5:00 every afternoon and I wasn't about to try an 18 mile run in the middle of the afternoon in the blazing sun. So my thought was to do it Sunday morning before church but after getting back so late Saturday night I ended up sleeping in. (have I given enough excuses yet).

So- overall, my last 2 weeks were in the upper 20's mileage wise, not optimal, but won't kill me either. I had already decided to do Richmond at long run pace or a little faster but not at race pace so no harm done. I can still get two 20 milers in before Richmond so I will be fine.

It was pretty fun in Florida. We went down during this time because last week is when teh Thunder Beach motorcycle rally was going on. We had a good time with this. However, we didn't spend any time on the beach. Last year Glenn loved it and we there all the time. This year he hated it- I think we spent about 20 minutes total on the beach all week.

One day when I ran I ended up hooking up with a guy that was training for the Florida IM. Ran a bit with him but he was much faster than I was and I didn't want to hold him so off he went. Also saw some swimmers in there wet suits swimming along the coast line.. figured they were training to the IM also.

Last 2 weeks look like this:

Week of 09-17-07:
Mon- No run
Tues- 6 miles
Wed- 6 miles
Thurs- 6 miles
Fri- No run
Sat- No run- drive to PCB
