Week 5 of ING Georgia Marathon Training

Mon- rest day.
Tuesday I went out for a nice 5 miler before work. I was supposed to run 7 miles but I woke up late and just got 5 miles in.
Wed (and the rest of the week) was very hectic at work trying to get everything finished for the week as we are off work all next week for the plant shut down. I got 3 miles in on the treadmill at the gym after work.
Thurs. got in another 5 miles before work.
Friday was a rest day.
Saturday was a 14 miler at Stone Mountain. I was nervous about this run as it seems like a long way to me now. It used to feel like a medium distance that I would just go out and pop off with out any worry- but these days it makes me a little nervous. The run went really well. I struggled just a little the last 2 miles but finished strong. After the run I recovered prettty fast and felt great. I finihsed up (almost) the play/swing set that I am building for Glenn.
Sunday- ran 7 miles. We had alot to do to get ready for people coming over on Christmas morning so I went right after church so I could have the rest of the afternoon to help Kathy with stuff. I took Glenn with me in the running stroller. I guess I am in better shaoe than I thought to be able to do everything I did yesterday and then push Glenn for 7 miles. He loves running with me- glad the weather is such this winter that he can go with me. He talked non-stop the first 3 miles and slept the last 4.

All in all- a great week!!

Week 4- ING Georgia Training

Monday was a rest day. My legs were little tired today. Tuesday I went out for a 4 mile run- saw 2 shooting stars this morning which was pretty cool. Pushed the 4th mile a little and was very pleased with the pace of this mile. Upper body/core weight work out at lunch. Wednesday was a very hectic/tough day at work (which was just a continuation of Tuesday). Went out for a 6 mile run on the new paths that I found last week. Explored a couple of new paths. Thursday was 4 miles in the morning and upper body/core weight work out again. Rest day on Friday.
I had a 13 miler scheduled for Saturday. I decided to do it at Stone Mountain on the hills. After a quick stop at 1.75 miles I ran the rest of the way with out stopping. I was pleased with this. I was worried this run as I wasn't sure I was ready for 13 miles yet even though I ran (with walking in the 2nd half of the race) the Atlanta Half marathon on Thanksgiving. My oace was very even through out the run and I actually felt like I had something left when I was finished. When I got home it was time to start building Glenn's Christmas present. He is getting a big wooden swingset for Christmas. My legs were kind of tight and sore on Sunday. I had 6 miles on the schedule but really wanted to keep building on Glenn's swings set, so after church I took off for a quick 5 mile run and then back to building. Around the 2 mile mark of my run my legs loosened up, felt light and fluid, and the run almost felt effortless for the next couple of miles. I pushed the pace on mile 5 pretty good trying to get finished.

Overll- very pleased with week 4 of training.

Week 3- ING Georgia Training
The week started out with a rest day on Monday. I am glad as I have something wierd going on with my upper left leg. The top of my quad, top of hamstring, and my groin are very tight and sore. Hopefully just a sympton of not stretching after running (which I am horrible about). Other than that I feel great after 2 weeks of the program. Looking back, the next two weeks is where I have hit a snag in training but I think it is because of the program I was using and not being prepared going in to it. I am taking things much slower and easier this go around and hope to stay strong with the program and running.
Tuesday- went to the gym on the way to work and then did a 4 mile run at lunch. Felt good.
Wed- what a great run. I went the opposite way on the greenway where I run and got a nice surprise. After 1 mile of running on pavement the natural/dirt trails started and went for about another mile to a county park, so I got 2 miles of beautiful trail running in also. It was such a fun run I decided to add in some 100M strides during the last mile.
Thurs- A.M.- 4 mile run before work.
P.M.- upper body weight workout
Fri- rest day. I took the day off of work and Kathy and I took Glenn the Georgia Aquarium. My in-laws went along too. It was a great day. We have annual passes that expire at the end of this month so we wanted to go at least 1 more time. Then Kathy, Glenn and I took in the Gladiators (our ECL Hockey team) game Friday night. We had a fun play day.
Saturday- I coach my nieces basketball team (5th-6th-7th grade girls). Our first game was Saturday and we won 18-15. Very exciting finish to the game. We were up by 6 with 1 minute to go and one of their players hit a 3 pointer to get with in 3. After a couple of exchanges, they had the ball with 4 seconds to go. A tight defense kept them from getting a shot off and we won.
I celebrated by running my 8 miler in the afternoon. This was my long run of the week as it was drop back week.
Sun- ran a 6 miler. Legs were a little tired because I ran the 8 a little too fast yesterday.
