The slow base building continues at a slow rate- trying not to wear myself out in the first few weeks like I have done the past couple of training sessions. I am not sure when training for the ING Georgia marathon starts - probably sometime in mid November. I want to have a few weeks of decent mileage before starting it. Also, I will start out this time with a pretty basic program rather than the Pfitzinger program.
I started trying to figure out what's gone wrong my last few training sessions and came up with these facts:
-my priorities have changed
-I am a little older
-I weigh an all time high
-I am trying to use a very aggressive program
-My base is not where it has been in the past
So- I need to get back to the basics and have fun with running like I did when I started - no stress, and as I said in my last post, just enjoy running.
I went out and bought the new/3rd edition of "Marathon - The Ultimate Training Guide" by H Higdon. This is the first book I read that tought me the basics when I decided to start running marathons. I decided if you are going back to the basics, go back to where you started and what got you to where you were before and that's it. I am only about 100 pages in to it but I am enjoying reading it again- especially the 3rd edition.
I wanted to take a glance back at the mileage I had accumulated as of 10-23 for the last few years. It was interesting:
10-23-03: 1723.6 miles
10-23-04: 1558.3 miles
10-23-05: 861 miles
10-23-06: 884.3 miles
The last 2 weeks I have decent weeks of running. I wanted to get back out and do a semi-long run which would be about 10-12 miles for me right now. Last week it didn't work out to get it in so I had a week of shorter runs. This week, I missed a couple of shorter runs but did get a 10 miler in at Stone Mountain. The run went good but I had to laugh at how sore I was that night and the next morning.
