There is only 8 weeks until the Richmond marathon which is not enough time (6 weeks of training, 2 week taper) to get ready for the quality of race that I am looking for, so I made the decision that the race will be a no go for this year.
I started out training pretty well and then just hit a wall and never quite got back in to the mode. I had a couple of "ok" weeks after that but I have now missed 4 weeks of quality training and 3 weeks of long runs. I have missed runs again this week and still plan on getting a longish run in this weekend but the total miles for the week are not going to be where they need to be. Looking back at my race times over the past 3 years I have steadily slipped. Although I am bringing my times back down I do not want to go run a race just for running a race purposes- I want to meet the goals I have set for myself so it is important that I go in to the race well trained.
So- saying that- I am not sure what my next marathon will be- maybe Rocket City in Hunstville, AL or Run the Rock in Dallas. Both of these races are in December which would give me 4 additional weeks to build on my base and prepare. I may just end up skipping a fall race and concentrating on the ING Georgia marathon in March 2007.

I can empathize. I don't feel that my training is where it needs to be for my goals. I don't have a gauge yet. I think that if your goal is more than notching more marathons under your belt, then you are making the smart choice to postpone the marathon for one where you rtraining has been more to your expectations.
