Recap of week beginning 08-14-06
Week 6

Not a good week for running again but got some more much needed R&R from running. This was a step back week on the Pfitzinger program and I was going to come in with less miles than the program called for but no where near how far under I turned out to be.

Mon- I woke up with a pretty bad sore throat- decided I didn't need to run. Wasn't hard to make that decision while laying in bed turning my alarm off and rolling back over to go to sleep.

Tues- Still had a sore throat and started getting pretty congested but wanted to get some miles in. Ran 4 miles at lunch.

Wed- feeling better but still congested. Didn't run- don't know why- guess I decided to get more sleep instead.

Thurs- felt pretty good. Went for a nice 6 mile run. I really enjoyed this run. It was a nice, quiet morning- just right for a relaxing run.

Fri- scheduled rest day. Started to congetsed again. Seems to happen at night.

Sat- Woke up and was very congested. Made a deal with myself that I would wait and go for a nice medium/long run later in the morning. I ended up cooking breakfast and had a nice sit down breakfast with Kathy and Glenn- something we haven't done on a Saturday morning in a while. I ended up getting out for 3 miles late that afternoon. Promised myself I would do 10 miles on Sunday afternoon.

Sun- Well- I broke the promise I made to myself. It was hot and I just wasn't motivated to run in that heat. Time wise I wasn't going to be able to get 10 miles in anyway- so I went to visit my parents. I have been over there and just sat and talked to them in a while so I figured it was a good day for it. Bad storms formed so I am glad I was there and not out running.

Mon- 0 miles
Tues- 4 miles
Wed- 0 miles
Thurs- 6 miles
Fri- o miles
Sat- 3 miles
Sun- 0 miles

Total- 13 miles

Time to get back on track next week. I have ben looking at altering the program some and coming up with a less strenuous program. I will try to fo back to one that got me in shape for a couple of good marathons before I started using the Pfitzinger program. We'll see if the less strenuous program helps me get back on track!!

Recap of week- 08-07-06
Week 5
I slept in as long as I could on Monday and got up and ran a quick 4 miles in my neighborhood.
Then came Tuesday morning. Major melt down, physically and mentally, around running. I didn't run another step all week until a 15 miler with Michele at Stone Mountain Saturday morning. It was great to run with Michele (as it always is). And as I told her, had she not been meeting me there to run it very likely I would have slept in. The run wasn't the greatest we have had out there but wasn't totally bad either. We stayed pretty consistent pace wise and ran a pretty smart long run with the conditions we were running in.
Sunday- I kind of wanted to get out for a run on Sunday. It was a great morning- low temps, low humidity. But, when I woke up my body was sore and achy. Great- here comes a summer sinus infection and/or cold. After church, we called Grandmama to see if she could keep Glenn and kathy and I went on a 3 hour motorcycle ride through some beautiful country roads. So- no run today but a wonderful day enjoying the weather.
Had a great dinner at Michele's house on Thursday evening. It was great to see Michele, John, and Shannon again and to get to meet Michele's mom. Also finally.... finally met Nattu. What a great evening of food and conversation.

I have been looking at some other training plans that are a little less demanding and may switch to them. I think it may be too much right now to be doing 2 longer runs during the week. I may do one longish run during the week and then 6-7 miles on the other days. I am going to monitor things over teh next couple of weeks and see where I need to go.

Mon- 4 miles
Tues- no run
Wed- no run
Thurs- no run
Fri- No run
Sat- 15 miles
Sun- no run

Total- 19 miles

I am tired!!!! I woke up Monday morning and only ran 4 of the planned 6 miles simply because I didn't want to get out of bed and go run. Finally I made mtself get up and get out for 4 miles. Then Tuesday I had 9 miles w/ 4 at half marathon pace. I got up, got ready to go out of the door and just had zero motivation to go. My legs felt like they weighed 100 lbs. each and I had no energy. I put my water bottles back in the fridge, took my running shoes off and went straight back to bed for another 1.5 hours of sleep. I felt tired and groggy all day.
I had planned on running Wed. morning but Glenn woke up at 4:30 as I was about to get up and head out and decided he was finished sleeping for the morning- so I missed that run. I am not sure I how many miles I would have run had I gone. My legs are still heavy but I do have a little energy coming back.
I am not sure what the problem is but I am thinking I may scale back on the miles for a while. It may be the heat/humidity, the added weight I am trying to run with, the added years I have since I last did this program in it's entirety- or a combination of all of it. What ever it is - I am not liking it very much.

Recap of week beginning 07-31-06
Week 4 of program
This week I wanted to go back to 6 days a week of running but when the alarm clock went off Monday morning my brain said No Way!! I ended up running a quick 4 miles in the evening. The added mileage that I put on the schedule was 6 miles every Monday, but at this point I am not really worried about the 2 miles I left off. The important thing to me is to get the legs used to working 6 days a week again.

Tues- My legs were dead for some reason. The last 1 1/2 weeks I have had tired legs. I finished out the run but was not pretty.

Wed- ran 6 miles at what was supposed to be a slow recovery pace. I don't know why, but I am having trouble doing that. I could used to alter my pace on my runs to what the program called for, but it seems these days I am stuck at a certain pace. This run went ok but my legs were still pretty tired.

Thurs- 10 miles. I have decided that the body is a wierd thing. I have had a tough time running the last week or so and then I go out today and have an absolutely great 10 miles. I struggled a little in mile 10, but other than I felt strong. Maybe that means I am coming out of this running funk I have been in.

Fri- Rest day

Sat- 15 miles at Stone Mountain. The run started out a little slower than I wanted and was also a little tough to get started mentally. Finally made that first step and started the run. Once I got through about 4-5 miles everything started clicking and the last 10 miles felt very fluid and good. I felt good when I finished this run.

Sun- 5 mile run. Was supposed to be at recovery speed but I just ran what my body felt like - ended up being faster than I really needed but I left the park feeling good about the run.

Mon- 4 miles
Tues- 8 miles
Wed- 6 miles
Thurs- 10 miles
Fri- Rest day
Sat- 15 miles
Sun- 5 miles

Total- 48 miles
